About This Site

The Purpose of Moses in History

This site explores one of the most enduring — yet largely overlooked — threads in American history: the profound and recurring influence of the biblical prophet Moses on the leaders, documents, and defining moments of the United States.

From the Pilgrims who crossed the Atlantic seeing themselves as a "New Israel," to the Founding Fathers who chose Moses as the symbol for the first Great Seal of the United States, to Abraham Lincoln eulogized as "a second Moses," to Martin Luther King Jr.'s final speech evoking the Promised Land — Moses has been a constant presence in the American story.

Our aim is to document this influence rigorously, with every claim supported by fully cited scholarly sources. The site is intended for students, educators, historians, and anyone curious about the deep biblical roots of American democracy and culture.

We welcome corrections, additions, and discussion. If you know of a reference or historical connection we have missed, we'd love to hear from you.
